DI stands for Demineralization by Ionization. In order to ensure that water is as pure as possible, DI filters remove any mineral ions that make their way through RO membranes. In addition to removing nitrates that aren’t removed by the membrane, the DI filter also removes ammonia. It consists of a cartridge filled with small beads of ion-exchange resin. Minerals and other ions leave the water as it passes by the beads and attach to them.
